Sump is a storage tank used to collect liquids, as well as for their primary mechanical cleaning. Sediment tanks are used both on an industrial scale and in individual farms. At the stage of primary treatment, when sedimentation tanks are mainly used, mechanical impurities and suspended substances are extracted from the liquid under the action of gravitational forces, and biological treatment processes begin; when using the settler as a biocoagulator, fine and colloidal impurities are deposited, and sorption processes occur on the sludge particles. Oil sump is a special equipment designed to separate oil-water emulsion. In the separation process, oil is obtained, which is then collected, and formation water, which is discharged.
