A thermocouple is formed by welding two different conductive wires together at the end. The boiling point is called a hot spot, and the two extremes that remain open are called cold spots (or reference points). The existence of a voltage of mV, also called the thermoelectric voltage or Seebeck voltage, which is proportional to the temperature difference between these two points, has made thermocouples widely used in temperature measurement. Regardless of the temperature distribution between the hot point and the cold point of the thermocouple, the generated voltage is proportional to the temperature difference between the hot and cold points.
