Sodium Sulfide: In the mining industry (flotation), sodium sulfide is used as an activator to sulfide and hydrophobize the surface of desired minerals. For the flotation of oxidized minerals, the surface of the oxidized mineral is first sulfided with sodium sulfide and then a collector is used. This action improves the efficiency of the collector and hence the efficiency of the flotation. In the leather industry, sodium sulfide is used to sulphitize tanning, and also as an itch agent in the leather laiming process. In the textile industry, sodium sulfide is used as a bleach, sulphur- and chlorine remover. In pulp and paper industry, sodium sulfide is used in the crafting process. Also, sodium sulfide is used in paint, detergent and oil industry.
